Early Life and Education

Vignesh’s passion for cricket ignited at a young age, playing neighborhood matches in his hometown. Initially experimenting with medium pace and spin bowling, he was advised by local cricketer Mohammed Sherif to focus on leg spin. This guidance led him to join the Malappuram District Cricket Academy at 14, where he honed his skills under coach Vijayan. Domestic Cricket Career

Vignesh represented Kerala in various age-group categories, including Under-14, Under-19, and Under-23 teams. He showcased his talent in local leagues, playing for teams like Jolly Rovers and Alleppey Ripples. His performance in the inaugural season of the Kerala Premier League (KPL) in 2024, where he took two wickets in three matches for Alleppey Ripples, caught the attention of Mumbai Indians (MI) scouts.

Invited for trials with Mumbai Indians, Vignesh impressed head coach Mahela Jayawardene despite initial nervousness. His consistent performance during multiple trials led to his acquisition by MI for ₹30 lakh in the 2025 IPL auction. On March 23, 2025, Vignesh made his IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), delivering an impressive performance by taking three wickets for 32 runs, including the dismissals of key players Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube.

Coming from a humble background, Vignesh is the son of Sunil Kumar, an autorickshaw driver, and K.P. Bindhu, a homemaker. Beyond cricket, he enjoys swimming, traveling, and gymming. Vignesh is also an animal lover, particularly fond of dogs and cats.
