TATA IPL 2025 : MATCH – 3 : CSK beat MI
In the third match of IPL 2025, held at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) commenced their season with a victory, defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets.
Mumbai Indians’ Innings:
After losing the toss, MI was invited to bat first. Their innings began on a shaky note with captain Rohit Sharma departing for a duck in the opening over. Riyan Rickelton managed to add 13 runs before falling prey to the bowlers. The middle order saw some resistance with Suryakumar Yadav scoring 29 and Tilak Varma contributing 31 runs. However, Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad’s impressive bowling disrupted MI’s momentum, claiming four crucial wickets, including those of Yadav and Varma. Lower down the order, Deepak Chahar remained unbeaten with a quick 28 runs, helping MI reach a total of 155 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings’ Response:
Chasing a target of 156, CSK faced early setbacks, losing their first wicket with just 11 runs on the board. However, a pivotal 67-run partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra steadied the innings. Gaikwad’s departure led to a flurry of wickets, but Ravindra’s resilience shone through. He anchored the chase with an unbeaten 65 off 45 balls, featuring two boundaries and four sixes. Despite MI’s Vignesh Puthur’s commendable bowling performance, taking three wickets for 32 runs, CSK achieved the target with five balls to spare, finishing at 158 for 6.
Key Performances:
CSK: Rachin Ravindra’s match-winning 65* and Noor Ahmad’s four-wicket haul were instrumental in the team’s victory.
MI: Deepak Chahar’s late cameo of 28* and Vignesh Puthur’s three wickets were notable performances in an otherwise challenging game.
